Hi. I don't know much about Addis Ababa but I can assure you there are lots of cheap reliable 4WDs in Nairobi. You could arrange with someone to get one and take it up North for you so it's ready when you arrive. I hope you get someone from Addis to reply to your post because of course it would be much easier....
