Lake
Manyara National Park is located approx 130kms west of Arusha, a small park
which covers an area of 330 sq km. As the name suggests, a large portion of the
park (to 200 sq km during the raining season), is the lake.
Lake
Manyara National Park is in the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and
the landscape comprises of forest, woodland, grasslands, and swamps. Wildlife
to be spotted are the legendary tree climbing
lions,
elephants, baboons,
buffalo,
zebra,
hippos,
giraffe,
wildebeest,
warthog and over 400 species of bird have been
recorded
It is a perfect stop off point on route to
Ngorongoro Crater and
Serengeti National Park and is well worth at
least one night's stay.
A
safari in Lake Manyara is rewarding at any
time of the year but the best time for optimum wildlife viewing is from July
through to October, during the dry season. If you are interested in bird
watching then the best time is November to June when it is wetter.
