Lake Manyara National Park

Introduction

Lake Manyara National Park is located approx 130kms west of Arusha, a small park which covers an area of 330 sq km. As the name suggests, a large portion of the park (to 200 sq km during the raining season), is the lake.

Lake Manyara National Park is in the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the landscape comprises of forest, woodland, grasslands, and swamps. Wildlife to be spotted are the legendary tree climbing lions, elephants, baboons, buffalo, zebra, hippos, giraffe, wildebeest, warthog and over 400 species of bird have been recorded

It is a perfect stop off point on route to Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park and is well worth at least one night's stay.

A safari in Lake Manyara is rewarding at any time of the year but the best time for optimum wildlife viewing is from July through to October, during the dry season. If you are interested in bird watching then the best time is November to June when it is wetter.
