Uganda Leisure and Sport

The 'Ruwenzori', or 'Mountains of the Moon', lies along the western border of Uganda, on the border with the DRC. The main summit, Margherita (5 109 metres), rises out of the Stanley Plateau, the largest glaciated area on the continent. To the west is the endless expanse of the DRC jungle and to the east the mists and clouds that rise up over the Lake Victoria basin. Chimpanzee, Blue Monkey, Ruwenzori Colobus, Red Forest Duiker, Hyrax and Leopard are the commonest large mammals, although some elephant and buffalo are found.

Uganda is most popular for its Mountain Gorillas - these can be seen mainly in Bwindi or Mgahinga National Parks.

The 84 forested islands of the Ssese group, scattered like green jewels on the waters of Lake Victoria some 55 km from Entebbe, are one of Uganda's greatest undiscovered treasures. Only the largest have any development, the rest remain unspoilt - tropical forests full of birds and monkeys, white sand beaches, crystal clear water.

Uganda is a bird watchers paradise with more than 1,000 species of birds to be spotted..
