Re: i need to rent a car in mauritius - 14 years ago

Be careful to rent only from registered contract car agencies. The car should have a yellow plate and black numbers. This way, you're sure to be covered. In other cases, you won't be !...

Re: Regarding work permit in mauritius - 14 years ago

Procedures for work permit, we should note, do not have specific time duration. Some applications may take two weeks to conclude while others may last for months. It depends also on the type of expertise / skills you have. If it doesn't fall into a 'scarcity area' it might be very difficult. Mohun... you should get the no-objection from your ex-employer. If you have a work permit, then they ...

Retiring in Mauritius - 16 years ago

Hi, just reading your post, and believe that you are totally right. Information are somewhat scarce but you may get a good load of it at the website of Board of Investment (www.boimauritius.com). As for retirement, normal scheme would require you to put USD40,000 per year in Mauritius. Under this scheme you get a residence permit for 3 years, and can move to permanent residency (10 years) after ...

Visit or stay - 16 years ago

The first thing foreigners should bear in mind is that buying property is not opened at 100%. There are specific criterias which allow you to purchase (eg: you should have a permanent residence permit.. amongst others). i've seen many disappointed persons during my career and wouldn't like to see anymore... certainly that's also because many so-called professionals wrongly advise people. ...

No chance - 16 years ago

You can stay in Mauritius for 3 months on either a business or tourists visa. But I fear your chances to get in for work might be a bit weak. You can try to get a work placement, then you would need to apply for special permit from the immigration authorities ...

Moving to Mauritius with pets - 16 years ago

Well, I think that your pets wouldn't avoid quarantine in Mauritius, in any case. The law here doesn't provide for any other way round! The documents you have will definitely ease procedures, but then, that's all. You'll still have to stick to 1 month quarantine. For your accomodation, do you have any budgets in mind? We do have such properties at monthly rentals of around Rs25,000 and it goes...

Accomodation and cost of living - 16 years ago

Hello Well monthly accomodation would depend on the level of comfort you would require. A fully furnished flat in the Flic en Flac region, next to the sea is around Rs20,000 -Rs25,000. Else in town it can be lower (Rs10k - Rs15k).. all depends on what you looking for. For a couple I think you would be able to find your ways with around Rs12000 per month or less. Yuo can take either Eur or Mrs....

Misleading - 16 years ago

You can provide copies and/or certified copies. If you have originals, the BOI will certify themselves, else you've got to see the local embassy or consulate. You need to be present to make the application. They require valid business visa to process, as OP is delivered in three days and they no longer wish to receive applications and wait for the person to land in order to issue the work permit...

For professional in this field, they need not look further, cause you are actually speaking to someone in this field for 15 years now! Tell me what's misleading, I'll gladly answer. Hi, Great to see that you are interested to acquire property in Mauritius. Well, sorry to tell, but there are some restrictions when it comes to foreigners. First, you can't buy, unless: (i) you have a business here and you need that property for business purposes. (ii) you hold a Permanent residence which comes after at least 3 years of residence in the country via a normal residence permit...

Coming to Mauritius - 17 years ago

Dear Mandy, In fact, I've just cross your post and would like to assist you in your venture. You see, if you want to come over here for work, you should first find someone who's ready to hire you. As an expatriate services consultant, I would advise you to come down with a business visa first, spend around one month prospecting for job. Or if you prefer, stay in your country and start applying ...

Moving to Mauritius - 16 years ago

I think Melloman, that you are too direct and limitative. To be able to buy property, you need to be in one of the following conditions: - holder of a permanent residence permit - buy in the IRS scheme - buy in a new property scheme launched after budget - buy for exclusive business use - or get a Mauritian nationality. There are specific steps that lead to such conditions, on which we can elab...
