Anybody going by rail between Livingstone and Dar-es-Salaam should do it northbound. It is in reality very difficult to do it southbound as
- the trains on Zambia Railways´ line Livingstone-Kitwe are hours late, and the trains do not start in Kapiri Mposhi
- the scheduled departure of the train from Kapiri Mposhi to Livingstone is between 2 and 3 a.m.
- there is no such thing as a Kapiri Mposhi station on that line, just some railway tracks on the ground, no platform, no building, nowhere to wait for a train
- Kapiri Mposhi is not Zambias nicest place to hang around in, especially not "chained" to some luggage
