Zanzibar

I have plans to visit the main island in July but am a little concerned about the current warnings. Has anyone been recently and can relay their experience?

I was in Zanzibar for a month over Christmas when trouble started brewing but it is very much disassociated with tourism and you will have no problems at all more than a more peaceful beach...it gets quite busy in June though i believe many will be unneccessarily deterred. Certainly not worth missing, I have friends there at the moment and there is no trouble as long as you are not associated with a particular political party..which is unlikely..!

We were in Zanzibar in November; we were warned not to go and the ferries weren't running regularly but we saw no problems at all. In fact our biggest problem was getting soaked in a taxi because it had a leaking sun-roof and as usual, it bucketted down and we got drenched!
