Can foriegners own property and obtain residential status easily in Tanzania. Or, is it a lot of palm greasing?

yes you can buy on a lease hold, it is a mission. You need to register a company and hold an A class work permit - the company can own the property and rent it to you at a nominal rental - the tax law is changing so the valuations may as well. There are a few expats that have done this here - al depends where and when
