living in johannesburg

i might get a job in johannesburg on sep/2001.
i intend to move there with my wife and my 3 daughters ages 8,6 & 1 years old.
i would like to know before what to expect in this city,esspacially about the personal safty in living there.
does it so dengerous to live in johannesburg,as people telling me?
could we feel safty and confidence?
i would like to clarify the situation...

Hi Dov,

I hope this may shed some light into your question. The South African situation is not quite as it is portrayed in the media. There are areas which should be avoided like in other major cities. Crime does take place like hijackings and burglaries but being a little careful and avoiding certain areas you and your family should be ok.

Joburg is like any city in the world.Ihave lived in London.Tel aviv,Athens and visited about 100 other cities around the world and yes there are safer places than joburg but all in all it is a great city and if you just take normal precautions you will most proberly be alright.there are good and bad areas just like London.I hope you have agood life when you come to live in my home city.
