Used clothing

Our teens at church have collected 42 cardboard boxes full of used clothing to send to a former missionary's translator (a Malawian native). He wants us to send it to the Church of Christ there, which is a P.O. Box in Salima, Malawi. When I check on shipping (DHL, USPS and others), it's always around $90 or more per box (way too expensive). Now USPS is telling me there is a restriction that you cannot send used clothing to Malawi. Can someone help me find a way to send these clothes and redeem all the hard work the teens did to package them?

While I'm sure your intentions were good, you have probably figured out by now that with the money it would cost to ship the clothes, you could buy more clothing in Malawi (plus it would be helping the local economy). Why not have a garage sale and send the proceeds to the translator?

Many countries have restrictions on used clothing, computers, etc. for that very reason.
