Hi Everyone. About five years ago I did a backpacking/camping trip to Mozambique it was awesome and wanted to redo it but wanted info on current conditions.
Our route was basically first night Maputo Fatima's (haven't been there for 5 years so any news of conditions there now would be helpful)and then make our way to Tofo for about five days (also looking at possibly Fatima's Nest, any comments welcome as I have never been there before).
From here we were wanting to go to Vilanculos for about a week. The last time I was there we hired a dhow and two crew from a guy in a little pink house right near the main campsite. It was really cheap and they took us to Benguera and two mile the next day and then back to Vilanculos on the fourth day. This time we wanted to hire a dhow and crew (anyone have any contacts) and explore the coast and other islands for five days. What I needed to know was where to stay each night and any contact details for accomodation on the islands. I know about the big lodges but this is way out of our budget. We stayed at Gabrielles the one night and had a bad experience with some construction guys there but think this was an isolated incident. What is Gabrielles like now and was it damaged with the big storms a few months ago.
Well that about it. Any info will help. We leave on the 1st September 2007. Oh last thing. I will be taking two fish skis along. Any idea on regulations and permits for launching and fishing from a ski.
