Balancing luxury and respect for local culture and environment Pole Pole is the perfect place to relax after a safari and the ideal base for exploring the underwater wanders of Mafia Island.

Seven bungalow suites, perfectly blended with the surrounding tropical garden, overlook the infinite hues of blue of Chole Bay, the core of Mafia Island Marine Park.

The bungalows are elegant and spacious, are set among the coconut palms overlooking the bay. The rooms are furnished with carved and antique pieces. Twin and double beds are available and an extra bed can be provided. Two bungalows are ‘family’ type with two rooms separated by the bathroom and a small corridor for privacy. The large private verandahs are furnished with a Zanzibari bed, chairs, table and an armchair. Each bungalow is self-contained, the bathroom is spacious and comfortable.
Set apart in the sunniest stretch of Pole Pole and surrounded by gently swaying palm trees, the swimming pool is shaped by a series of circles and set in a beautiful locally-sourced coconut wood deck.
Furthermore, the garden’s lazy tranquility is perfectly complemented by the soothing luxury of the Alasiri Spa, which is set in the surrounds of the pool area, offering a variety of massages that are guaranteed to ease you into holiday-mode…

We are a low environmental impact resort with a state-of-the-art phyto-purification plant which is a special process of treating wastewater to prevent environmental pollution.

How To Find Us

Mafia Island is approximately 30 miles off the Tanzanian coast, about 30 minutes by air from Dar es Salaam and 45 minutes from the Selous Game Reserve and Zanzibar Island. Mafia is reachable by light aircraft only. The resort is a 20 minute drive from Kilindoni, the main village and airstrip. The transfer to and from the airport is included in the accommodation cost.

Pricing Details

The prices are per person per day and include: • 3 meals and early morning tea • One daily excursion in Chole Bay • Transfers to and from Mafia airport • Tea, coffee and bottled water • Laundry (2 items per person per day)

The prices do not include: • Marine Park fees: 20$ per adult per day (children 10-16 years: 10$) to be paid cash upon your arrival at the Park’s entrance gate • Drinks (excluding tea, coffee and bottled water) and extras Unfortunately we do not accept children below the age of 10. Children from 10 to 12 years: 50% Single occupancy supplement: 30% Adult sharing family bungalow pays: 75% End of the year: supplement of 50 USD on the 31st December (including special dinner and free drinks) and minimum 5 nights. Please note that the use of cellular phones is not allowed in restaurant, bar, beach, public areas and on boats and cars. Guests are welcome to use phones in silent mode in their rooms. The resort will be closed from 1st April to 31st May
