Moving to Pretoria - 17 years ago

My amazing boyfriend (and most likely future husband) is from Pretoria. I am moving there to see what it's like. Coming from the New York/Massachusetts in the US, I AM a bit leery about the violence in SA that I've heard about as I am not used to it here. I hear Pretoria isn't too bad though?
