Re: Apply for Residency in Morocco - 14 years ago

Hi, You will need to go to an immigration office and obtain the correct forms, You will need a current passport with up to 6 months remaining, and many photo copies. You will also need 10 passport size photos and a 60Dh stamp ! That's the easy bit. You will also need a convertible bank account with a few thousand pounds in the account and a letter from the bank. You may also need to own a prop...

Marrakech Question - 15 years ago

Be prepared for a wait at immigration, there are often long queues and not enough officials. Trains from the airport to Cassa Voyagers station take 45 minutes, I think they run hourly, From Cassa Voyagers to Marrakech takes 3 hrs 15 Min's, and leaves every 2 hours. Should you miss the train there are plenty of tea shops in the area for relaxation and people watching. You will find the timetable a...

Currency implications - 16 years ago

12 months ago the exchange rate was 16Dh to the UK£, Today it has fallen to 14.50Dh, I am wondering what implications will this have for tourism in Morocco. Coupled with a slowdown in the UK house market, my concern is for Europeans that have recently purchased property for holiday rentals, and now worry about competition, finding paying guests and the falling value of the UK£ Although my home i...

the best place to retire to: Tangier or Rabat - 16 years ago

My advice is to spend some time in both places and see what suits you best. Of the two places I would think Tangier has more to offer in the way of an expat community and as been said before you are closer to Europe. ...

possible move to Morocco - 16 years ago

Hello Sallyann, I am the lady who was renovating in Essaouira almost 3 years ago. Our experience has been good except for a neighbour from HELL, who for what ever reason is determined to make life uncomfortable for us. Weaker people would move on, but we will not. My advice is, if you are going to buy a property in Morocco, check out the nearest Hammam, as often the chimney's are major polluters....

Hi, I think you will find that when you import a vehicle to Morocco there is a lot of tax to pay, A few years ago we were about to do this and discovered that the tax was 83% of purchase price when new. The Moroccan consulate in your country should be able to give you all the information you require. Good Luck ...

Dress for comfort - 17 years ago

You will see many western women in short skirts and low tops, they are pestered by every boy on every block. You dont need to cover from head to toe but if you dress with comfort in mind you will blend in and gain respect. Sunbathing in a bikini on the beach is the norm, Going topless might cause you to be arrested. and on a windy day you might get sandblasted. Dont forget your sun block & ha...

living in Morocco - 18 years ago

Hello, Firstly you need to decide where you want to live, Living in a town or city has its advantages, as You may not find any English spoken in the countryside. You are only allowed to stay 3 months then you must leave the country, It's good if you want to visit Spain for some shopping, but a bit of a costly exercise otherwise. Once you have found somewhere to live you should apply to the local ...

Ramadan in Morocco - 16 years ago

Depending where you go you may need to plan your meal times, Breakfasts are not readily available in some guest houses, so buying bread, eggs, jam etc late at night and self catering is a good idea. It is doubtful you will find much to eat in the mountains during the day, so again plan ahead...Have a good trip. ...
