Holiday in Hurghada

Thinking about a summer holiday in Hurghada.
End of June, that sort of time.

Will it be possible to visit Luxor and other places like that from Hurghada?
Will there be things to do apart from visiting historical sites?
Whats the resort like?
I've been told there is there alot of prostitutes, male/female?

Any places to avoid?
Any useful tips and info welcome!
