ferry from tanzania to malawi

Does anyone know if there is a ferry service from Mbamba Bay to the Malawi and if so, which day it runs? cheers, Jools

Yes, according to the Thomas Cook Overseas Timetable there is supposed to be a passenger ship service from Mamba Bay to Nkhata Bay, I believe it was every Friday from Nkhata Bay to Mamba Bay and every Saturday back. (And then there is supposed to be a Domestic Tanzanian service from Itungi Port to Mamba Bay once a week, unknown week days.)

Sorry, it was the other way around: Friday Mbamba Bay-Nkhata Bay, Saturday Nkhata Bay-Mbamba Bay (and of course not Mamba Bay).

Found out from the Tanzanian Harbour Authority that there is no longer a ferry from Tanzania to Malawi.

Don't believe what Thomas Cook say. The service is very irregular. There is no service by M/V Ilala, which now goes to Metangula, Mozambique instead, and the service by the Tanzanian ship Songea is irregular - could be fortnightly at best. Speak to Marine Service in Itungi Port. Try to phone them on Tanzania 28-2503074.
