Description

What the camp and bunkhouse lack in the way of luxury is made up for in the hospitality you will receive and the stunning beauty of the location. Facilities are basic with 5 simple twin bed rooms, 1 twin bed banda, paraffin lanterns, two bush showers and eco-toilets. There are several camping terraces for those looking to camp and parking for visitors with their own vehicles.

The camp a small restaurant where visitors can have delicious meals prepared. Foodstuffs are all purchased locally to benefit the community.

Hot water is prepared for bathing but please be aware water is a scare commodity in Nkuringo by virtue of the camp and bunkhouse sitting on a ridge some 700m above the Kashasha river. Porters deliver water from  a spring when rain water harvesting from the roof of the bunkhouse is not sufficient to provide for demand.

By virtue of the campsites altitude and the cool evenings experienced the presence of mosquitoes is very rare.

How To Find Us

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES FROM KAMPALA TO KISORO

Direct bus services to Kisoro depart daily from Kampala travelling overnight arriving in the morning hours between 08.00am and 11.00am. This is a 500KM journey.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES FROM KISORO TO KAMPALA

Buses depart Kisoro between 05.00am and 06.00am for Kabale continuing to Kampala arriving around 16.00 hours.

DRIVING FROM KABALE
The driving route is well sign posted from Kisoro however there is actually no reason to go all the way to Kisoro when proceeding directly to Nkuringo through Kabale.

From Kabale continue out the other side of town on the road to Kisoro.

As you leave the tarmac in Kabale drive for about 18km where the first UWA junction you notice is signposted Buhoma 90km. This would be the right fork in the road. Keep left at this junction continuing along the Kisoro road. After a further 5kms there will be another junction with UWA signpost marked Ruhija 26kms. Again keep left on the Kisoro road.

The next junction about 43km from Kabale is signposted Nkuringo 40kms. This route follows a windy road with wonderful views of the forest and the Kashasha river valley before arriving in Rubugiri.

After travelling 30 kms along this road it joins the direct road from Kisoro 10kms before Nkuringo after the trading centre of RUBUGIRI. At this 10km junction you will see a signpost for the campsite and a further two signposts before you arrive at the site.

The travel time from Kabale is about 2,5 hours.

DRIVING FROM KISORO
On arrival in Kisoro a plethora of signposts fill an island in the middle of the road one of which is signposted Nkuringo Campsite. The Kisoro route from Kabale will not take that much longer than the direct road signposted at KM43. The distance from Kisoro is 36kms and takes a little over an hour to Nkuringo.

TRANSPORT FROM KAMPALA TO BUHOMA

A Gateway public bus departs Kampala daily by 06.00am for Butogota. The journey time is about 11 hours.

Buses bound for Buhoma travel during daylight hours although currently stop in the town of Butogota some 15kms from Buhoma where the bus crew arrange a special hire vehicle (usually a pick up truck) to get those proceeding to Buhoma to their destination.

BUHOMA TO NKURINGO OR VICE VERSA

If having arrived in Buhoma by public transport on the direct daily bus from Kampala you will need to overnight in Buhoma before proceeding the next day on the walk through the national park 12kms some 5 to 7 hours to Nkuringo. You can return from Nkuringo the same way or proceed to Kisoro.
