Not to be missed is the amazing Tetuan Medina, a World Heritage site. A vibrant warren of tiny streets, alleys and markets, this is how Marakesh was, before the tourists. The 'white city' Tetuan is the regional capital, with excellent shops, sophisticated restaurants, interesting architecture and a real buzz about its busy life.
An expedition through the lovely hills to Chefchouan, the blue town, is a splendid day out and another excellent place to see local crafts and industry and buy leather, pottery, carpets and fossils. Or go for guided mountain treks among the wild mountains. Cosmopolitan Tangier reflects layers of history and has a great medina, or visit Ceuta/Sebta: a different Spanish world, and duty free shopping is half an hour's drive. Take a day trip from there to Gibraltar for a different cultural experience- or you can fly the Med by helicopter and spend a day in Malaga.
But Morocco is a country it is difficult to tear yourself away from! In M'Diq you can eat at tiny steet cafes for a few pounds, or licenced restaurants on amazing fish dishes, or just stroll along the promenade watching the fishing boats bringing their catches. Moroccan food is delicious and there is a huge choice of cafe's and restaurants in the area.
Shopping can be done easily at the huge Marjane supermarket 1/4 an hour away, or enjoy buying fish just out of the water and fresh vegetables in the \M'diq market or stalls.
FLY direct to Tangier Boukhalev from most international airports. Budget flights there via Madrid, Amsterdam etc. Budget flights to Malaga/Gibraltar- take taxi/bus/hire car to Algeciras and ferry to Ceuta. Budget air to Fez, hire car. Skyscanners is an excellent place to research best flight deals.
My friendly agents will pick you up from Tangier or Ceuta if you wish.
Driving directions: From Tangier- take the road signed 'Tetouan' over the mountains, turn off the autoroute at Tetouan, follow signs to M'Diq. Turn off at M'diq sign, but go left there, not into M'Diq, the complex is a couple of miles on the left, well signed. From Ceuta, take the coast road towards Tetouan, past Marina Smir, it is off the roundabout on the right.
