Description

After over ten years in the hospitality industry of which the last eight spent in East Africa, i finally decided to open my own place. Red Monkey lodge is a cozy small beach lodge with only 9 rooms, restaurant and bar, located in Jambiani on the wonderful south east coast of Zanzibar.

This area is my favourite as mass tourism has not spoilt the original atmosphere and plenty of activities can be done from here (diving, kite boarding, bike tours, deep sea fishing…check our activity page)

The Red Monkey Lodge is the realisation of a life time dream and intends to be a non pretentious and laid back location for holidays, while offering high level service to spoil our guests. Keywords are: barefoot, informal, cozy, watersports and great food & drinks. We do not offer animation programs nor plasma screens in the rooms and prefer guests that have genuine interest for their environment and the local culture.

Completely restructured in autumn of 2010, this cosy lodge is positioned right on the sandy beach next to a small tropical forest which is home of the red colobus monkeys, that give the name to the lodge. In front of Red Monkey Lodge there is a 2 kilometre long sandbank that reaches from the beach far out into the water, and about 2 km away from shore there is the barrier reef.

The setup consists of 7 one storey bungalows (9 rooms) with traditional makuti (palm tree) roofing , a restaurant, a dhow bar, a kite boarding centre and a beachfront chill out area with sun beds and umbrellas. The pathways between the small tropical garden, are covered with sand, allowing our guests to live a real ‚barefoot experience’.
