Mozambique has a vast coastline of pristine beaches and Rio Azul Lodge is situated on a part of that coast - 35km north of Inhassoro town on Bartholemew Dias Point and 120km for Vilanculos, Rio Azul Lodge faces west and the Govuro River.
This 4* Lodge is nicely appointed with 6 chalets made of local hardwoods that sleep 2 people each, equipped with shower, toilet, twin basins & fans and 2 fantastic villas. Each villa has 3 en suite double or twin bedrooms, with shower & bath, private lounge, private plunge pool, private access to the beach and a loft that can sleep 6 children - the pefect getaway for families, fishermen and the general traveller who is looking for that quiet beach vacation. All rooms face the estuary and are placed perfectly for those African sunsets.
The main lodge itself comprises of a TV lounge, lounge, beautiful bar, dinning room, deck and pool with access to the estuary and fantastic views.
All packages at Rio Azul are fully catered and the food is simple but fresh, using local produce where we can, especially fish, calamari, crab and crayfish.
Trips to Paradise Island are arranged for those people wanting a day out snorkelling. A packed lunch and cooler box is provided, as well as umbrellas for shade. The snorkelling is great and the island is interesting with a lot of history. For those a little more adventurous there is deep sea fishing with our expert fishing guide on a 31ft vessel or fishing up the estuary on small motorised boats with 15hp motors - our experienced guides with show you the way to the best fishing spots.
Birding, shell collecting, kayaking and windsurfing can all be enjoyed from Rio Azul Lodge.
Fly from Johannesburg or Maputo to Vilanculos - flights generally depart South Africa at 10h30, arriving in Mozambique at 13h30. Staff from Rio Azul will meet you at the airport in Vilanculos and transfer you to the Lodge. Depending on the tide you may have to wait at a local beach bar for the tide to recede, all part of your African experience.
Settle into your accommodation once at the lodge, hopefully arriving in time to enjoy the sunset.
Meet at the bar for pre-dinner snacks before a 3 course meal is served.
Spend your time exploring the area or simply relax by the pool with a book and enjoy the peace and tranquility that the area offers. Speak to the lodge staff to arrange your fishing or snorkelling trips - sundowner cruises up the estuary and so much more.
For children there is so much to do - wake boarding, tubing, shell collection, swimming to name a few
After breakfast it's time to leave this little piece of paradise and travel to the airport for you flight back to Johannesburg or Maputo.
