We are planning a trip through Africa North to south starting mid March of this year and intend being in Kenya early May. With the trouble occurring there at the moment we are unsure if it is safe to include Kenya on our route. Unfortunately it is a country that you must pass through. We were intending going to the west of the country then into Uganda but I wonder now if it would be safer to travel south from Nairobi into Tanzania and unfortunately miss out Uganda and Rwanda.
We have our own transport, an AWD VW 2005 model, there will be the two of us. So far we have travelled from India across to the UK.
There were many warnings about travel in Pakistan & Iran before we left but we have learnt to keep a low profile and not to take risks
Thanks for any assistance.

Dear Jelga,

Its very nice that both of you love Kenya and Africa and thinking to trace in kenya from Nairobi to Uganda. I am kenyan living abroad and had planned to go home to kenya this year to visit my 75 yrs old mom and 7 brothers and sister to mention a few. i am 42 and have not been there for last 4 years, so you can imagine how much i miss to be there soonest.I cant go because its not safe at all. I have been calling them and emails from friends, unfortunately they all tell me not to go this year untill the chaos are over and no body is sure when. They say its very unsafe and scarery and that they are not travelling around themselves. Nairobi is bad,and Kisumu is worse to the Ugandan border and so my advice is not to go that way (west)and probably DONT believe anyone saying they will asure your safety unless you know them and that its safe because i dont think it is. I lived and worked in Kajiado, which is south and way into Tanzania. Infact its almost 2 hours drive or less from Nairobi to Namanga, a very tiny border town to Kenya/Tanzania (TZ) and that route could be safer than going through Kisumu and drive 8 to 12 hours to the uganda /Kenya border unsure of the chaos along the way. my advice is go South to TZ if you have to go this may, and call The embassy of your country for acurate advice before your departure. Other than the tribal conflicts Kenya was a wonderful and enjoyable place to be and i hope things get better for all of us.
Many thanks.
Good luck

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your advice. We have decided to still go ahead with our trip but will be going directly south from Nairobi as you suggest if the situation does not improve.
It is terrible what has happened in your country and I hope they can sort out the problems as soon as possible with no more blood shed.
Thank you once again

Gary,

Thank you for that prayer and wish for Kenya, it will be great to see that happen and we all enjoy to go in and out whenever need be. We are glad you have the confident and trust the safety there in general and hope the tribal chaos will be over. Going west through Kajiado to TZ is masai land and or rather the masai tribe live there as you probably aware that most African nations are made of tribes who speak different languages, then Kiswahili as a national language in kenya and then English as a borrowed languaed and a compasary tought in Schools and thats why i am able to write and speak. Kajiado it a very scarsly populated District in the Rifty Valley province and the masais are very calm, kind and peaceful people who love everybody and hospitable and you should not be worried of them what so ever. They are harmless people who still keep and practise their traditions, and a God fearing Christian tribe as most kenyans. They are very lovely to be around with despite the the uneducated majority who you probably meet and see along the way including in Tanzania. They love and care much about visitors without any kind of descrimination. Please let us know how your travel will be when you get there in may and advice us too on our planning to go this Novermber.

Many thanks and have fun.
