Hello Everyone,
I'm moving to Kenya in December for about 7.5 months and have a few cost of living questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
1.How many ksh per month for food? (I am a young woman 21 years old, and do not eat meat--but do love veggies)
2.How much per month is average for phone credit provided I'm calling and sms'ing in Nairobi, not internationally?
3.Is 15,000 ksh a month a good deal for a room to rent in Lavington? Is furnished.
4.How many ksh roughly from Lavington to city centre?

Any other cost of living info would be greatly appreciated smiling smiley
Thanks!
-Kayla

I also have a friend coming looking to do some tourist-y stuff...can anyone suggest a good 2/3 day safari to take her on that is budget-minded?

Hi Kaylaw,

Great that you're coming to Kenya smiling smiley

Well hopefully my comments will assist you.

Food: Depends on where you go to shop. Going to a grocery shop is definitely expensive. Going to the market is definitely a cheaper option. Although in lavington you will also find several ladies on some corners selling vegetables... so no worries. You might spend about Ksh. 5,000 per month

Phone credit: Depends on which service provider....plus they are all battling for customers so you'll get good rates. You can opt to take a safaricom postpay line and pay Ksh. 1,000 per month. That's what I use smiling smiley

Fare to Town from Lavington: roughly about Ksh. 30 - 40 depending on the time.

Room Rent: Ksh. 15,000 is definitely a good deal for a serviced apartment in Lavington. Good idea to use public transport. Taxis will dent your pocket.

For your friend's budget holiday package.. you can email:
tours@@#$%&.com. You'll get all the info you need.
