Malaria prophylaxis

Hi, I will be visiting Benin in a couple of week time. Unplanned I find myself on my own. Will I be safe in Benin (I am not a risk taker as such). How about crime? Is Doxycycline good enough as malaria prophylaxis? Any advise is welcome,
