West coast by motorbike: The most favourably Manufacturer

I plan to travel by motorbike from Europe down the west coast to the Ivory Coast.

Do you have any idea or experience what modell could be the best concerning knowledge of the local mecanics and availability of spare parts?

I was thinking about a Honda XL 600 or a Yamaha XT 600...

i have started a trip with my motorbike, bmw r80, in september last year.

it's a simple enginge, which most mechanics could fix. in some countries (don't ask me which...) the police drive bmw's their workshops could help.

i think it doesn't matter wheter you'd take a honda or a yamaha. but you'll have a hard time to find spares for KTM.
