intercontinental flights

I'm looking for advice on the safety of intercontinental flights. I'm going from Kenya to Ghana, and have just begun looking into what is available etc. Also, I'm concerned about bag slashing and have no idea what I could do to prevent it. Are there any creative ideas out there? any products? I will be using a regular travel pack. Thankyou.

Just to add, I am also wondering whether or not it will be less expensive to wait until I'm in Kenya before booking the flight to Accra at the airport. Otherwise a travel agent here can secure a ticket - is it too risky to wait until I arrive? will I actually be saving that much money?
