Hello,

I am looking forward to a Phd course in south africa at the university of stallenbosch. I have been making the various enquires with the university and things seem to be shaping in my favor.

I need a few informations from people who are already in south africa, due to the informal nature of the informations i need the university really cant help me find them. I do belive that people of this forum will help me with the same. I look forward to your help and urge you to please give me as much information as possible. I am highlighting some question below:

1. I will be allowed to work 20 hrs a week, i hold a mba degree in marketing, my question is approx. how much can one earn in 20 hrs a week?

2. What kind of employment oppoutunity awaits me, for 20 hours working? to be frank i can pay the fees from my savings but living expenses like, house rent, transport, electricity, food, water etc etc, would i be able to earn enough to cover these expenses

3. I have been to uk university web sites and they are very exact about the no of working hours, like they stamp on your passport and keep very strict control if one is exceeding the no of hours worked. Is it the same in south africa or laws are much relaxed than that?

4. Is it possible for me to buy a automobile when i am on a study permit in south africa? will banks be ready to offer a loan if i can score some fixed income?

5. How much does accomodation and living expenses cost in south africa? I will be single boy, with no family to support. I intend to live a simple effective life during my stay in south africa. if you can highlight them as detailed as possible per month i hope.

6. What kind of employment oppoutunities wait for me once i have completed my PHD in south africa.

7. I hold a indian drivers licence will it be recognised in south africa or i would have to apply for another licence for me there? how difficult is it to attain something like that?

Any other comments or opinions are most welcome and it will be most help ful to me.

I look forward to your help.

With best regards

BOB
