Mbolo! My fiance´and I are both from the United States and we are travelling to Morocco this November. We are hoping to get married there. I have found information on the documents that we need, but I am having a hard time getting info on how to do it. We will be by ourselves and all we want is a simple ceremony for just the two of us. Preferably in a nice, quaint setting. The religious aspect is not important... although my fiance´is Catholic. Can anybody point us in the right direction???

Please send an email.

It is quite difficult to marry in Morocco. You need to get certain stamps and signatures from different officials and all documents need to be translated into Arabic as well. I would say, marry in your resident country and enjoy Morocco for your honeymoon or a later vacation! Or get a hold of a good english-speaking lawyer to help you through all the paper work...
As the dude charging $5000...beware! It's not that much (nowhere near it) to have a simple ceremony in Morocco (or any country for that matter)!
Good luck!

Bismillah,
I wanted to first ask are you both non-muslim or are you muslim and he is not? This June i was married in Morocco but we are both Muslim and he is Moroccan. It was alot of walking, traveling and work. During my journey i watched others who were from Morocco marrying mates also from Morocco taking many of the same steps we had to endure. Are you marrying in a church or Masjid? It is not clear what exactly are your plans. I would like to extend the best of wishes for this joyful occasion. I also agree that it is very cheap (expenses) in Morocco. It would be better for you to make your own reservations and itinerary (YOU will save more money this way).
I would also like to extend a helping hand, my name is Jamila and my email is btflprincess@hotmail.com. Remember, though we want our wedding day to be very romantic and memorable it is so much more important to put more money, work and time into the MARRIAGE.

Get married in the US first, preferably in a masjad if you're muslim. You will get marriage
certicate which is in Arabic from the Iman. Send
it to the Moroccan Consulate in US and they will certify it with a stamp. That is the easiest way and cheapest. You will have no trouble where ever you travel in Morocco. You can then have your ceremony there.

If one of you is Christian you will need a Christian witness to the marriage - friends who wanted a very quiet ceremony had to dash into the street and ask a passing tourist if he was Christian and would help! (He did and they have been happily married for 10 years). I wish you every happiness for the future.
