Vanrhynsdorp is a small village on the N7 en route to Namibia - most southern point of Namaqualand and the most northern town (on the N7) of the western cape. Spring brings a caleidoscope of flowers in this arid part of the world and draws litteraly 1000's of tourists, especially botanists. This half desert-area, called the Knersvlakte (borders Vanrhynsdorp in the south) changes into a paradise of flowers as soon as the first rains have fallen - it is a miracle which keeps on repeating year after year! A third of the worlds succulents are found in the Knersvlakte which is also known for its richness in mining-activities.
AAN'T DORPSEIND is in the old part of town, neighbouring hectares of lucern fields and currant vines, victorian architechture - where the local munisipality still allowes you to keep sheep in your back-yard . We are within walking distance of the world renowned Quiver Tree Nursery, with its well-displayed succulents; 40 minutes from the ocean ; neigbouring the Olifants River wine route; at the foot of the Matzikama mountains; the Gifberg, a well-known farming community, produces some of the highest quality rooibos tea in South Africa and where the rock formations remind of dinosauruses. The Gifberg is also known for its variety of fynbos.
Feel SAFE on your visit, we have no reported crime in our little village, we have put in safety measures for your emotional security, like an electronic gate, enough lights and under cover parking.
Aan't Dorpseind is on the N7 north, turn off at Vanrhynsdorp, go into town, up to the T-junction, turn left at the Church and immediately right - this is Kerk Street, carry on all the way to end of street, on left-hand-side you will find us: white walled with name on wall.
