Located in: Kenya - Lamu Island
Apendalo-House is a private holiday villa in Lamu Town, built in 2006/07 overlooking the sea between Lamu and Manda Island as well as the northern part of town.
An attractive and spacious new townhouse, recently built in traditional Lamu style, Apendalo sits just back from the seafront in a quiet area of Lamu Town. The interiors are roomy and beautifully-finished, and, besides some antiques, furnished with attractive, newly-built traditional furniture – including chairs, tables, sofas, four-poster beds, planters’ chairs and even a magnificent Zanzibar chest.
The house was built by a highly experienced local contractor and features strong, best-quality mwangati hardwood beams throughout. Thick walls downstairs and open aspects on all sides on the upper floors ensure that the house is particularly cool and breezy throughout. The accommodation includes a high-ceilinged entrance hall, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, large kitchen and dining room with balcony, spacious living room with traditional Pili Pili bed and balcony and large makuti-thatched rooftop with built-in baraza bed.
The house enjoys far-reaching views across both the town and the waterfront, and the open third-floor roof terrace is a lovely, romantic place on which to relax, enjoy the sea breezes and watch the passing parade of dhows in the Lamu Channel. Lamu is a declared World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Lamu is easy accessible by plane from Nairobi, Mombasa and Malindi and by bus from Mombasa and Malindi (and the coast).
