BENIN - TOUR 2 SOMBA Although a small country, Benin has much to offer. Added to an authentic taste of African bush country, there are a whole range of natural and human curiosities to be found and they can all be characterised by one simple word: charm. Day 1 Travel to Ouagadougou the capital of Burkina Faso. After welcoming at the airport you will be transferred to your hotel. Day 2 Transfer from Ouagadougou to Benin. On arrival we go camping and rest from the long journey. Day 3 Today we visit a market. After that we bring a visit to the ‘Tata Somba’ huts, traditional Benin huts. Somba is a community that is living in the North of Benin. Day 4 Today we visit the mountains of Taneka and walk to the old villages of Taneka. We bring a visit to the ‘Cliftop Taneka Community’ with their unusual round roofed houses. The biggest part of the village is inhabited by Chief-Fetish Priests who wear a dress and the woman are wearing Sarongs. Also in the Taneka villages, just like in the Somba villages, the community plays a lot of music. Overnight in Tanake. Day 5 We take the way to Abomey, capital of the ‘Fon’ Kingdom, the big supplier of the slaves in Brazil. The Royal Palaces of Abomey are a unique memory of this disappeared Kingdom. We will bring a visit to the Palaces of the Kings Guézo and Glélé. After that we drive to Lokossa. Lokossa is a community in the South of Benin. We overnight in Lokossa. Day 6 Today we will transfer towards the coast to Grand Popo. This is a small town on the beach, half-way of Cotonou and Lomé. We will enjoy the beautiful beach. Overnight in a hotel. Day 7 We will drive to Ouidah, capital of the Voodoo. Quidah is a relative small village. There is a trail that is leading towards the ocean ‘La Route des Esclaves’ (The route of the slaves). It is the route that slaves used to pass on the way to the boats. Along this route you can find statues of ‘voodoo gods’ everywhere. Here we will take a look. After that we bring a visit to the temple of the pythons. You can see a couple of snakes, and if you like hold the snakes. Next we bring a visit to the ‘Holy Forest’. In this forest a King ones has been turned into a tree. After that we will drive to Ganvié. This is a small village built on steels on the lake Nokwé. After that we drive to Cotonou where we will stay for overnight. Day 8 Today we bring a visit to the capital of Benin, Porto-Novo. After Cotonou, the biggest city of Benin. The president of Benin is also living in this city. Porto-Novo arose in the 16th century and is named by the Portuguese. You can sightsee the city by food are you can get a motorcycle-taxi. A visit to the old church, the big market ‘dÁdjara’ and the ethnographic museum are definitely a visit worth. After that transfer to the airport for your flight back to your home destination. The end of a wonderful round trip through Benin.
