MALI : TOUR RO02 DOGONLAND Mali, located in West-Africa is a country with a rich history and culture. On the Niger-river, the fountain of the country, arose in the middle-ages on various places mighty kingdoms, who shape the foundation for the recent cultural wealth. Impressive loam buildings, like the eternal old Mosque of Djenné, testify this rich history of the country. Day 1 Travel to Ouagadougou the capital of Burkina Faso. After welcoming at the airport you will be transferred to your hotel. Day 2 Today we transfer to Mali. We drive through the traditional towns and impressive baobabs. After we cross the border we stay for overnight at Bankass in Mali. Day 3 Transfer to Mopti, a town on the Bani River and the Niger. The harbor is a lively scenery. By boat we discover the different populations who live by the river. We visit a mosque, the harbor and the color full market. After that we step on board of a pinasse to see a sun downer on the water of the Niger River. Overnight stay in a hotel in Mopti. Day 4 Today we drive to Djenné, the most beautiful town of Mali. We bring a visit to the market and the unbelievable mosque (the highest loam construction in the world), with it’s famous color full market. A nice example of the Sudanese construction style. Overnight stay in Djenné. Day 5 Transfer to the cliffs of Bandiagara. The falaise of Bandiagare is 135 km long and reaches out from Douentza in the North to Bankass in the South. Bandiagara is 550 km from the North of Bamako. By foot we experience the culture of the Dogon. Dogon’s have their own fascinating, rich and mysterious civilization. In April they celebrate their famous five ‘Mask Days’. With this typical Dogon festival they have many dances and they drink their own brew beer. Day 6 Today is the last morning in Dogon before we depart to ouahigouya. This town with his wide, straight streets and low construction buildings is very relaxing. The only curiosity in this town, witch in history went down more than ones because of the civil wars, is the so-called Naba kango Tombe, the grave of a king in the 18th century. We stay here for overnight in a hotel. Day 7 Transfer to Ouagadougou. We visit the famous museum of Manega. A local poet turned the small village into a monument of world peace and African Culture. Here are more than 500 masks exhibited. On the way back we visit the hand- crafted center. After that transfer to the airport of Ouagadougou for your flight back to your home destination. The end of a wonderful round trip through Mali and Burkina Faso.
