Stations: Accra – Atimpoku – Akosombo – Kpong – Accra. Duration: 10 hours Departure time: unknown What you get: round trip, guided tour, gate fees, lunch and cruise on the Volta (no drinks).
Itinerary: This relatively short trip will take us through East Ghana to one of Africa’s greatest hydroelectric projects at Akosombo. But we will first stop at Atimpoku, where we will walk across the big suspension bridge spanning the Volta River, before finally driving to the dam site at Akosombo. There too, we will take a guided walk over the dam, visit the hydro-electric installations and have lunch at the magnificent Volta Hotel. We will then crown the day with a sunset cruise on the world’s largest man-made lake and interact with the fisherman of Kpong, who earn their living by landing tons of tilapia every month. Later return to Accra.
