Day 1: On arrival at the Lilongwe International Airport, you will be met and greeted by your driver/guide who will transfer you to Kumbali Hotel, overnight bed and breakfast. In comparison to many other parts of Africa Malawi is still much undeveloped and very African. Although there are big international supermarkets in the city, you will notice as you over fly Lilongwe villages surround it. Walks around Lilongwe are very peaceful and the people are very welcoming and friendly. The capital is divided into two areas: Old Town and New Town. The old town houses residential areas, banks, shops and the Lilongwe Market. New Town as the name suggests, you will find diplomatic missions, up market residents, NGO offices and governmental offices. Day 2: After breakfast, depart for Beach Resort in Nkhata Bay. This drive of approximately 6 -7 hours will take you across rural Malawi and to the Lake Shore. Overnight at Beach Resort. Bed and breakfast. Day 3&4: Days at leisure. Optional activities will include explore the local fishing villages or yoga offered by qualifies. Overnight at Beach, bed and breakfast. All of the eight chalets, overlooking the Lake Malawi are tastefully furnished and have en suite facilities. Each has its own solar power and hot water boiler. A certified Srivinanda Instructor instructs yoga lessons. Other optional activities will include village walks water sports, fishing, kayaking among others. Your driver and vehicle will be parked at the Lodge for your personal use at all times. Day 5: Transfer immediately after breakfast to Nyika National Park and to Chelinda Camp for a drive of approximately 6 7 hours. Sitting 2000 meters above sea level, spectacular views across the plateau, Nyika is renowned for its wild flowers, orchids and horse back safaris. Chelinda Camp, overnight on full board basis Day 6: Game drive and over night at Chelinda Camp. Option activities include walking and horse back safari. Overnight at Camp on full board basis. NYIKA NATIONAL PARK Established in 1965, Nyika Plateau is the largest and oldest National Park in Malawi. It is Nyika is made up of rolling grassy hills surrounded by steep escarpments and interspersed with forested valleys, most of which are above 2,000 meters above sea level. This vast plateau is a perfect place for game drives, horseback riding and long walks through the long grass. Streams and dams are stocked with trout, and game such as eland, zebra, roan, waterbuck and smaller antelope roam the area. Night drives reveal the eyes of hyenas, jackals and plenty of owls, and if you are lucky, you might spot a leopard. A variety of 200 species of orchids covers the grasslands in the spring. Day 7: Karonga and overnight at Hotel, bed and breakfast Day 8: Visit to the Karonga Project Museum where hundreds of fossils from dating back from dinosaur times some 100 million years ago to the period of first humans, some 5 million years a 2.5 million year old lower jaw of Homo rudolfensis was discovered. Overnight at Hotel bed and breakfast. Day 9: Drive to Mbeya in Tanzanian after boarder and immigration formalities and over night at Hotel, bed and breakfast. Mbeya is the major agricultural capital in the countrys south-west region with large farms and plantations for vegetables, coffee, tea plantations, banana farms, and fields of cocoa. The mountain views and pleasant weather make Mbeya a pleasant place stay. Overnight at Lodge, full baord. Day 10: The drive from Mbeya to Ruaha National park will be a long while passing beautiful agricultural villages. This will be a long days' drive, compensated by the stunning African scenery. The drive to Ruaha is a truly fascinating one, which gives you the real feel of the African countryside. The journey will see you pass sisal plantations, local villages before starting to climb the Great Rift Escarpment passing Iringa Town and finally arriving to your Lodge. Late arriving at the lodge late in the evening, refresh yourselves and Overnight at Lodge, full board. Day 11: After a light breakfast, depart for a walking safari which will bring you close to some of the smallest animals and plants that you would not see on a vehicle game drive. The crisp fresh African air mixed with the wild smell of the animals evokes your smell senses to the intoxication unique bush smell of Africa. Each plant and tree has medicinal value in the African Community and our guide will point them. Return to the camp for full breakfast Depart in the morning for early morning game drive returning to the camp for followed by a later afternoon game drive after lunch. Overnight at Lodge, full board Day 12: After break fast, depart for a full day game drive with picnic lunch. This will give you a good opportunity to explore the park. Accompanied by an armed ranger, we start the day with a walking safari. Afternoon game drive, overnight lodge, full board RUAHA NATIONAL PARK, Tanzania's 2nd biggest park and host to a number of animals which rare or absent in the North. The rare animals include the African Wild dog, roan and sable antelope and the greater kudu. The Great Ruaha River, which provides life to the park, flows through the eastern side of the park and is home to hippos, crocodiles and a variety of water birds. Day 13: Breakfast at the lodge, then drive to Mikumi Nat. Park via a Maasai village at Twinga Malenga Village. This cultural visit will give you a short insight of the traditional ways of the Maasai people and Tanzanian village life in general. Also of interest would be the Neema Crafts Shop in Iringa, which makes and sells handicraft made by disabled people. Overnight at Guesthouse, full board. MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK is flanked between the Uluguru and Udzungwa Mountains and is transected by the surfaced road between Dar es Salaam and Iringa making it one of the most accessible parks in the southern Circuit. It also shares its boundary in the extreme south, with the Selous Game Reserve, and the two make one ecosystem with some animals (Elephant, Buffaloes and Zebras) migrating to and from the northern part of the reserve into Mikumi National Park Other animals to be seen in the park included: buffalos, giraffes, elephants, lions, zebras and leopards. The park is also famous for its wild dogs and 6m long pythons. Day 14: Depart after breakfast for Selous Game Reserve. This will be a long drive of 9 hours through some of the most scenic parts of Southern Tanzania. Villages and the Uluguru Mountains dot along the way compensating for the long days drive. You will make a short lunch break by the road side arriving at the Camp by late afternoon. Your afternoon game drive begins as you drive across the reserve from the north gate towards the eastern side of where the lodge is situated. Relax and refresh for dinner, Depart after breakfast for Selous Game Reserve. Packed lunched en-route will be provided. Overnight at Camp, full board. Day 15: Start the day with a morning boat safari. The boat safaris will brings you close to the aquatic animals and birds. You will also pass by local farms after lunch. Take the rest of the day to explore the reserve as the famous explorers did in the yester years. Picnic lunch will be under shady trees with a relaxation visit the hot springs. Return to camp late evening in time to freshen up and for dinner. Overnight at Camp, full board. Day 16: Morning Game drive and after lunch depart for a late afternoon game drive and overnight at the Camp, full board. SELOUS GAME RESERVE covering 50,000sq km, this is the largest game reserve in the world. The reserve supports an enormous number of elephants, buffalos and wildebeests. Other rare species include the African Hunting dog. The park provides home for some of the last remaining black rhinos. Day 17: Depart after morning drive to Dar es Salaam with packed lunch en-route and connect for flight home or extension to Zanzibar.
