Day 1: Johannesburg to Bazaruto Archipelago (Vilanculos) On arrival at Johannesburg International Airport (O.R. Tambo International) you will be met by our representative, who will assist you while you book on to your 2 hour connecting flight to Vilanculos on the warm tropical coast of Mozambique. Vilanculos is a stepping-stone to the 2 main islands of the Bazaruto Archipelago (Bazaruto and Benguerra). This 1,600 km² conservation area has truly unique ecosystem, which boasts a plethora of wildlife, including over 180 species of birds, endemic butterflies, suni antelope and freshwater crocodiles, while the protected reefs and beaches support dolphin, game fish, giant lobster and several species of marine turtle. The area is also considered to have the highest concentration of the endangered Dugongs on the entire East Coast of Africa, making it n extremely important conservation area. The diving conditions are amongst some of the best on offer in the world. The area offers nearly 20 different dive sites, and with visibility ranging 10 45 metres, we are sure you will want to explore every last inch of each one. Water temperatures range from 28 degrees Celsius in summer (30 degrees between December and February) to 22 degrees Celsius during the winter months, providing comfortable all year round diving. On arrival in Vilanculos, you will be met your Lodge representative, who will assist you in boarding your Air Transfer to Indigo Bay Island Resort. This will give you an awesome view of the Bazaruto Archipelago from above, the different shades of blue and turquoise doted by Islands and filled with amazing sea creatures. Check into your Luxury Lodge, relax and enjoy. Day 2 & 3: Indigo Bay Island Resort, Bazaruto Island Indigo Bay is an exquisite island destination situated on Bazaruto Island, the largest island in the Mozambican archipelago of the same name. It offers visitors the quintessential Indian Ocean island holiday as well as a gateway to the unspoilt beauty of the surrounding area. The protected Bazaruto Marine National Park is a scuba diver's paradise, with crystal-clear waters and a range of dazzling soft coral ridges and reefs to explore. Divers are able to see over 100 species of coral, thousands of tropical fish species, five kinds of dolphins, four whale species and sharks, all five marine sea turtle species and the largest population of the rare dugong on the African east coast. A host of exciting dives can be experienced here with reef fish such as snapper and surgeon, as well as potato bass, kingfish, barracuda, manta rays and reef sharks to be seen. Above the water dolphin are frequently encountered whilst humpback whales can be sighted between August and October and whale sharks between April and July. Leatherback, loggerhead and green turtles are often seen in the water, coming ashore to lay their eggs on Bazaruto's sandy beaches. A state-of-the-art dive-training pool is available for guests wanting to hone their diving skills or take up one of several dive courses on offer. The on-site PADI diving instructor co-ordinates the diving courses, from beginner courses to more advanced reef diving, and plans every diving trip taking care of all the details, from safety precautions to the final dive entry. You will take part in 3 scheduled dives while at Indigo Bay, on days 2, 3 and 4. The Resort facilities elegant yet natural design perfectly compliments the beauty of its tropical location overlooking Indigo Bay on Bazaruto Island. The guest areas and accommodation have been constructed of natural materials like reed, soft-fringed thatch and wood in order to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Each chalet offers complete luxury, with air-conditioning, mosquito screens, sumptuous en-suite bathrooms, mini-bars, 24-hour power, satellite TV and telephone access. Choices of separate, inter-leading and shared veranda chalets are available. Spectacular restaurants specializing in seafood, and characterful bars with original walls dating back to the early Portuguese traders, provide the focus of Indigo Bay's living areas. A typical day will start with wake up call from the Resort in the way of a snack filled breakfast tray packed with light delights and freshly brewed coffee and tea, after which you will meet the resorts professional dive master, who assist you in checking your dive equipment, and will take you through the specifics of the dive location for the day. You will then head out by boat to one of the many dive sites in the area, stopping on your way to view dolphins, whales, turtles and other sea creatures. After the dive you head back to the lodge for a much deserved brunch. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the island on one of the many additional activities offered by the Resort or you may choose to lounge around on the beach enjoying the tropical sun or even take part in another dive. The choice is yours. Lunch will be served in the restaurant with its panoramic sea views, while dinner can be served anywhere you like it. Day 4: Indigo Bay Island Resort, Bazaruto Island Today is your last day on Bazaruto Island, and your final chance to take in this beautiful area. After your morning dive, and scrumptious breakfast you will be escorted to your next destination, Benguerra Island, by your very own private fixed wing aeroplane. On landing you will be met by your new Lodge host, who will assist in checking you in and seeing to your needs. You will have the option of doing an afternoon dive or you may just wish to check in relax, and enjoy your awesome destination. Day 5, 6 & 7: Marlin Lodge, Benguerra Island Marlin Lodge is situated on the southwest shore of Benguerua Island, the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago off the coast of Mozambique. This unspoilt marine reserve offers some of the finest scuba diving sites and some of the best deep-sea fishing in the world. The warm tropical waters surrounding the archipelago support a stunning variety of fish, coral, marine mammals and plants. Water temperatures range from 28 degrees Celsius in summer (30 degrees between December and February) to 22 degrees Celsius during the winter months. The various dive sites can be reached with the Lodges 27ft catamaran Novacat, equipped to accommodate 8 divers and equipment comfortably. All dives will take place at locations to be determined by the Dive Instructor once at the Lodge. Once again, you will have the option to take part in 3 scheduled dives on days 5, 6 and 7. The lodge also offers additional optional activities which include Islands excursions, a wide variety of water sports (jet skis, waterskiing etc), Dhow Sunset Cruises, Island Drives and Snorkelling Adventures, while Wind Surfing, Kayaking, Kite-Flying and Catamaran Sailing are all complimentary activities. The Marlin Lodge Beach chalets are set just above the beach, sea facing, and only a few steps from the white sands of flamingo bay beach. The chalets have been constructed from local materials giving it a rustic feel with sophisticated designed finishes adding to its luxurious settings. The Chalets are extensive and include their own private patio overlooking the beautiful beach and turquoise ocean, all with separate en suite facilities. The Lodge offers exceptional cuisine by their in-house first-class chefs, with sumptuous culinary flavours that will tempt you and delight you. The cookery is characteristic of seafood-plentiful Mozambique, infused with the Asian and Portuguese influence of its past. Day 8: Marlin Lodge, Benguerra Island All this come to an end, and unfortunately, this is your final morning. After breakfast and some last minute sightseeing, you will be escorted back to Vilanculos via your own private fixed winged aeroplane. You will then have time to do some final curio shopping in Vilanculos, where we are sure you will pick up a few fantastic bargains. You then board your onward flight to Johannesburg International Airport (O.R. Tambo International).
