Get to see the open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the popular centerpiece of Mikumi, which draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains.
Lions survey their grassy kingdom – and the zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo herds that migrate across it – from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or sometimes, during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffes forage in the isolated acacia stands that fringe the Mkata River, islets of shade favoured also by Mikumi's elephants.
Criss-crossed by a good circuit of game-viewing roads, the Mkata Floodplain is perhaps the most reliable place in Tanzania for sightings of the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope haunt the miombo-covered foothills of the mountains that rise from the park’s borders.
More than 400 bird species have been recorded, with such colourful common residents as the lilac-breasted roller, yellow-throated longclaw and bateleur eagle joined by a host of European migrants during the rainy season. Hippos are the star attraction of the pair of pools situated 5km north of the main entrance gate, supported by an ever-changing cast of waterbirds.
Tour itinerary:
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi
Pick-up from the Airport/hotel in Dar es Salaam and drive to Mikumi National Park (4 – 5 hours Drive) arrive in time for lunch, late afternoon game drive; Dinner and overnight at Vuma Hills Tented Camp
Day 2: Game Drive in the Mikumi National Park
Full day Safari: Mkata Chamgore (place of the python), and Mkata Food Plain within Mikumi National Park; lunch at camp. Proceeds with game drive till late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at the Vuma Hills Tented Camp
Day 3: Game Drive in Mikumi National Park
Another full day of game drive to the south of the park, the area which includes Vuma Hills, rich in yellow baboon, impalas, reedbucks and other antelope; return to the tented lodge for hot lunch and then proceeds with safari. Dinner and overnight at Vuma Hills Tented Camp
Day 4: Return to Dar es Salaam
Early morning (sunrise game viewing) game drive, return to the hotel for breakfast and rest, packing ready to leave. By 10:00 AM start driving back to Dar es Salaam, lunch en route. We will bring you back to your hotel in Dar es Salaam
Pricing for Lodge Safari base on sharing: (Minimum 2 Pax)

The Price Include:
- Park fees, driver/guide in the safari (Fluent in English language)
- Transport from the airport to Mikumi and return, as well as transport within the park
- 3 nights at Vuma Hills Tented Camp
- Full board accommodation with 3 meals a day and bottle water in the safari
- A special Safari Jeep - Land Rover 110 or Toyota Land Cruiser - 4WDs will be provided.
- The vehicles are fitted with open-roof for game viewing and photographing.
- Game drive in the park: taking in the best times, early morning game drives and late afternoon game drives to Sunset
