Learn to paddle a surf-kayak in False Bay, hike Table Mountain’s scenic trails, learn to SCUBA dive with sharks, and assist with a volunteer program whilst honing your Xhosa language skills |
Week 1: An initiation into the twin oceans that lap the Cape coastline, you will be taught the basics of surf-kayaking, covering the Introduction Course under instruction from a qualified expert. In between this challenging course, you will have an opportunity to explore some of the Cape’s treasures, such as the penguin colony on Boulder’s Beach, Cape Point, the Winelands, and Table Mountain Week 2: Once you have tamed the topside of the seas on your surf-kayak, it’s now time to head under the water and explore the kelp forests and wrecks of the Cape of Storms oceans. Under the expert guidance of a qualified PADI instructor, you will be taught the basics of SCUBA diving in this week, as well as completing a number of dives in and around Cape Town’s bays. There will also be an opportunity to dive with sharks – a thrilling experience! During this week you will also have the opportunity to see more of the region; in Cape Town it is difficult to be bored – adventure is all around you Week 3: The final week sees you involved in life-changing volunteer work in various meaningful community projects around the cape peninsular (such as teaching English to underprivileged schoolchildren, building houses, assisting in a soup kitchen, helping at a refugee centre, etc) Included in the price: All accommodation in a comfortable beachfront lodge (shared rooms) Support of dedicated guides & crew Services of local guides on each leg of the expedition All meals (three per day) and certain drinks (purified drinking water, cordials, coffee, tea) All required equipment such as scuba gear, kayaks, wetsuits, surf-boards, sand boards Transfers within the expedition Excluded in the price: International flights Visas, travel & medical insurance Any excursions over & above itinerary Soft drinks, wine & spirits Emails & telephone calls All personal items Edutourism activities: We pride ourselves in offering unique opportunities on our expeditions for learning, especially in new and unusual fields related directly to the areas within the particular expedition. On this trip, the following learning opportunities exist: • Learning to SCUBA dive in the (safe!) company of the legendary sharks of False Bay • Learning to surf in the surf-Mecca of the Cape’s two oceans Responsible travel activities: Wherever possible, we try and live by our maxim of responsible adventure, responsible to our environment & to local people and communities. As such, the following activities provide you with a chance to give something back on this expedition: • Participating in various projects within the local communities that are visited (such as teaching English to underprivileged schoolchildren, building houses, assisting in a soup kitchen, helping at a refugee centre, etc)
