us on a journey that will lead you to explore, to inspire, and to impact. |
Week 1 - Canoe Expedition Week 2 - Bush Survival Course Week 3 - Hwange National Park Conservation Week 4 - Antelope Park, Lion Program Week 5 & 6 - Imire Black Rhino Conservancy Weeks 1 & 2: Zambezi River Canoe Expedition and Hwange National Park Bush Survival Course We believe that anyone coming to work in Africa as an ecotourist for any length of time should be orientated properly. These first two weeks will enable all our guests to make the most of their African experience through a deeper understanding of the environment and cultures in which they will be working. All accommodation will be tented camping, all meals will be provided. Kelly Rolf-Jones, one of our British ecotourists on the Big 5 Expedition in July 2007 said that this time in the bush was \"one of the best weeks of my life!\" Week 3: Hwange National Park Conservation Work The world famous Hwange National Park covers over 14,000 square kilometres and abounds in wildlife, including the Big 5. Hwange’s elephant population alone is in excess of 40,000. There are over 20,000 buffalo and approximately 300 lions as well as rhino and leopard. Our camp is ideally placed right on the boundary of this park. In the terms of our recently acquired Permit, this programme allows ecotourists to work inside the Hwange National Park, where snare sweeps, game counts, visual observations and the darting of snared animals and the subsequent removal of these snares are all important aspects of wildlife conservation. Imagine the thrill of being able to work off road and perhaps even at night, in the presence of Hwange\'s Big 5! You will be based at our beautifully-situated base on the boundary of the National Park - Miombo Safari Lodge, in rustic yet comfortable rooms shared between 2 or 3 people. Week 4: Antelope Park Lion Programme We have included this 4-night stop at our lion rehabilitation headquarters as a holiday section of your programme. You will be transferred from Hwange National Park to Antelope Park, which is a 6-hour trip by road. Antelope Park is the perfect place to relax after your time in the bush. Along with canoeing the river, horseback riding and game viewing, you will be able to: • Walk alongside lions as part of the pride and enjoy the exhilaration of being part of a hunt as the young cubs learn to stalk their prey • Visit younger lion cubs if there are any in camp at the time • Experience the African bush in a very special way on this private reserve: explore the savannah grasslands on horseback or whilst riding on the backs of African Elephants • Have horse riding lessons from our experienced guides You will be staying in comfortable twin or triple room thatched accommodation at the main camp. Situated next to a beautiful dam, the camp has modern facilities including internet access, satellite TV and a swimming pool. Your room will be cleaned daily by the housekeeping staff, and free use of the laundry service is available. You will enjoy 3 cooked meals a day. All meals are a served as a buffet style and taken in the main camp dining room, a thatched building overlooking the dam. Week 5 & 6: Imire Black Rhino Conservation Programme From Antelope Park you will take our specialised coach service through to Harare (4 hour journey). In Harare you will be met by Reilly Travers, a Black Rhino specialist, and transferred 1.5hours by road to the conservancy where you will have the chance to experience the bush through Reilley’s experienced professional guide\'s eyes, as well as work hands-on with the Rhinos and Elephants that the conservancy is so proud of.
