| Volunteer work with Vervet monkeys in South Africa |
Join this pioneering rehabilitation center to help conserve the Vervet monkey |
Make a difference at the biggest monkey rehabilitation centre in South Africa. The Vervet Monkey Foundation looks after over 700 monkeys of which most are Vervet monkeys, indigenous to South Africa. The centre is much in need of volunteers who have a love for animals and are prepared to become completely involved in the care and rehabilitation of these wonderful creatures. Volunteers can join for two weeks and upwards and will be fully trained in all aspects of animal care needed for this project. Not only will you learn about these primates, you will also experience the fascinating flora and fauna of South Africa and enjoy life in a traditional African bush camp. Located at the foot of the Wolkberg mountains, an hour and a half drive from the Kruger National Park, make the most of your opportunity to explore this beautiful region. Full training will be given in all aspects of animal care for this project. During your stay you will learn a huge amount about the Vervet monkeys, as well as about nature in general. Volunteers who are interested in furthering their studies on Vervet monkeys are most welcome to do so. In August 2006 the Vervet Monkey Foundation became a full member of PASA (Pan African Sanctuaries Alliance.) A purpose built sick bay area for the monkeys was constructed in 2007 (which may appeal to Vet nurses / students.) Location The Vervet Monkey Foundation is based near Tzaneen, a town in the Limpopo Province, a five hour coach ride from Johannesburg. Tzaneen is located in South Africa's picturesque Letaba district at the foot of the Wolkberg Mountains. About one and a half hours drive from the Kruger National Park, the area has a lot to offer and makes visits to South Africa\'s famous attractions a possibility. Volunteers will be staying in a tent village. It is a bush camp so be prepared for a truly outdoor experience! Although relatively basic the living / sleeping conditions are comfortable and the tent village is fully equipped with a sink, fridge, showers with hot and cold water and eco-toilets. What is included Pre-departure support and discounted services Pick up from Tzaneen Welcome and Orientation session In country coordinator All your food Full accommodation All in country 24 hour support Minimum Participation age is 18 years old
