14 days cycle, Arusha to Zanzibar. You cycle around Mt Meru, foothill of Mt Kilimanjaro down the Pengani river, around Pare Mountains, on to Pengani town by the coast, a boat ride across to Zanzibar.

14 DAYS: TANZANIA CYCLE TOUR, (cycle from northern Tanzania to the coast).

General route info
Starting from the northern town of Arusha your route enjoys some of the fabulous scenery around Arusha and Mt Meru before cycling south through Nyumbe ya Mungu, ‘House of God’, Pare Mountains and onto the Swahili coast town of Pangani before getting a boat across to Zanzibar for the last day. Water sports are available while on the coast


Itinerary

Day 1:
Arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and transfer to Maji Moto Camp

Day2:
A morning orientation followed with setting up the bikes. A morning cycle to the local village will help you familiarize yourself with both the bike and the surroundings. Cycling in Africa has its own challenges and visiting the local village will give you your first insight to Village life and the people of Tanzania.
Return to Maji Moto camp for overnight.

Day 3:
Transfer to Arusha for the beginning of the days cycling. You will be going around the northern side of Mt Meru heading for the Arusha national park.
Accommodation at the Momela lodge.

Day 4:
Departing from Mt Meru you head over the open planes across the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro. If it is a clear day you will have a fabulous view of the mountain for most of the day.
We will be camping on one of the local farms that night.

Day 5:
A nice down hills cycle meets you today, you are heading back to Maji Moto camp and the welcomed fresh water and swimming after a few days of cycling.

Day 6:
You will have needed your previous days rest as today you are heading around the
‘Blue Mountains’. There are a couple of challenging hills to navigate with some enormous views to take in as you reach the other side. You will be camping alongside a local Maasai boma tonight with some great natural interaction. Bush Camp

Day 7:
As you say good bye to you Maasai hosts you cycle over the remaining hills with
a view over ‘Nyumba ya Mungu’ translated the house of God, which is actually a huge dam which provides a large proportion of Tanzania’s electricity. You will reach the bottom of the dam and we will follow the Pengani river, watch out for the crocodiles and the fabulous fish eagles and water birds.

Day 8:
We follow the Pengani river down stream and then head up around the back of the Pare mountains. We will spend the night camping at the foot of the Pare Mountains.

Day 9:
Continuing around the Pare Mountains we return to the Pengain river, where the camp is set up on the shores of the lake under palm trees and yellow acacias

Day 10:
After breakfast we load the bikes on the truck for an early morning transfer to Segera and then on abit further where we start cycling. We will be heading straight down to the coast through Sisal plantations and forest. We stay at a beach lodge tonght.

Day 11:
The day is spent on the beach relaxing and swimming, water sport available

Day 12:
Say goodbye to the bikes! A mid morning boat trip across to Zanzibar, and transfer to your accommodation.

Day 13:
Either stay in stone town or transfer over to the east coast for the beach and rest. Watersports are available

Day 14:
Transfer from you accommodation to the airport for your return flight.
