Introduction
Our ‘Luxury Week in Eritrea’ is based on staying at the newly opened Albergo Italia boutique hotel. Asmara, with its pleasant year round climate and stunning Art Deco architecture, a legacy of the country’s Italian colonial period, represents perhaps the most concentrated and intact assemblage of Modernist architecture anywhere in the world. It is therefore no wonder that the city has been included on a tentative list with an application for full UNESCO status currently being considered.
What better way to experience Africa’s most charming capital than being based amongst the sumptuous surroundings of the Albergo Italia. With its imported handmade inlaid-wood furniture from Italy and exquisite dining room: soft greens and yellows set off the rich woods, with Asmara's astonishing light slanting in through the wooden window slats.
I T I N E R A R Y
Day 1 - Asmara
Arrive in Asmara and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore this charming city. Overnight Albergo Italia.
Day 2 - Asmara
After a morning to relax after your flight, we explore the city on a sightseeing tour of its main sites. Overnight Albergo Italia. (B)
Day 3 - Asmara
Free day to spend at leisure in this lovely city. Overnight Albergo Italia. (B)
Day 4 - Keren
Drive to Keren and explore the town, including its Commonwealth War Cemetery. Overnight Serina Hotel or similar. (B)
Day 5 - Asmara
Return to Asmara with time to explore further. Overnight Albergo Italia. (B)
Day 6 – Scenic day excursion east towards Ghinda
Drive to Ghinda through breathtaking scenery. This trip, along mountain roads, allows you to see some of the best of Eritrea’s scenery and gives an insight into life outside of the main towns. (BL)
Day 7 - Full day at leisure in Asmara
Another free day in Asmara. Overnight Albergo Italia. (B)
Day 8 - Asmara
Tour ends. (B)
