Day 1 Your guide will meet you at the Johannesburg International Airport or at your hotel. You depart after breakfast or as soon as you have cleared customs and immigration. Soon you leave the concrete jungle behind as you travel across the eastern Highveld towards Mpumalanga. The first two hours of your journey takes you past maize fields, grasslands, coal mines, power stations to the edge of the escarpment. As you decent down the escarpment you can sense the change in climate and see the vegetation changing. At Nelspruit you will pass through the subtropical Lowveld region and continue to Kruger Park. (Frequent stops at convenience shops with clean rest rooms will be made along the way.) Your journey to your lodge will take approx 5hrs. You will arrive at the lodge around mid-day - you have time to unpack, relax, put your feet up or scout the lodge environment. Mid afternoon is time for your first safari - search for Giraffe, Kudu, Zebra, etc.... and yes the BIG 5: Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo. Back at the lodge you enjoy a sundowner drink on the viewing deck overlooking the Sabie river, listen to the sounds of the African Bush. After a multi course restaurant dinner you can enjoy the stars that fill the African sky before heading to bed. ** Restaurant offer children’s menu’s and colour-in pages with crayons (so that you can have a relaxed dinner) Overnight: Lodge. Meals: Dinner. Day 2: Your choice of either an early morning safari, returning to the lodge for breakfast; or a mid-morning safari, returning to the lodge around mid-day. As you travel through the park your guide will share his knowledge about the history of the park, animals - big and small, birds and other creatures found in the park. REMEMBER: Because of the family focus of the safari you will have freedom of choice to stay longer at sightings that interest the children. Eg. They may enjoy looking at a troop of baboons and spend considerable time watching them play – no problem that is why our safaris are appreciated – private and flexible! After lunch you will have some free time. Have a walk in the lodge gardens, spend some time bird watching, play with the kids, have a swim or relax on the safari deck with that special book… Your afternoon safari will be around 15:30. Apart form searching for wildlife, you visit some waterholes, scenic stops and vista viewpoints - the ideal opportunity to take that picture that show the wide plains of Africa.
