We are proud to introduce this unique opportunity for FAMILIES with young children to experience a BIG 5 safari in a MALARIA FREE reserve.
Situated in the MADIKWE reserve this 5 star Private Game Lodge welcomes children and caters for the needs of parents with children of ALL ages. Children aged 12 and under sharing with their parents qualify for a special Kiddies rate, which includes child minders and the "jumior jungle safari". Children aged 8 - 12 are allowed on the adults safari and will be given dinner in the dining room on their return from the evening drive. The little ones 0 - 7 are taken on a separate "junior jungle safari" during the day - this is anything from 1/2 an hour to an hour and a half depending on the interest levels of the kiddies on the drive. Parents are welcome to come along BUT must not behave like adults!!! Child minders look after your treasures while you are on safari and dinner for them is served @ 18.00 in the dining room.
Experience 3 days of luxurious bush with your children at this exclusive lodge in the heart of the African wilderness.
Day 1
Your guide will meet you at the Johannesburg airport or your hotel. Travelling towards the north western part of South Africa you will pass the Hartbeespoortdam (man-made lake) and have a short stop at the largest African Craft Market in South Africa. This is the time to buy some special curios and good South African ice-cream for the children. You now travel further into the country side and soon the green pastures start to give way to typical African bush. The last hour of this 3.5hr journey is through the villages and land of the local Barolong tribe. You will arrive at Madikwe early afternoon.
Arriving at Madikwe you will be welcomed by your hosts Jaci and Jan - the owners and managers of the Lodge. They will acquaint you to the different facilities and program at the lodge before you have time to relax and unpack.
Late afternoon will be your first safari drive - in open safari vehicles your tracker will search for that elusive leopard or rare wild dogs. Keep your photo and video camera closeby! Children 0-7 will be in the care of child minders and the 8-12 hero's will join you on the safari. (Detailed program will be explained by the lodge staff.)
Dinner is a unique experience - around an open fire in the boma (outdoor enclosure) you will taste and smell true African cuisine. Knowing that your children are cared for (probably asleep after the exciting day) you can enjoy the last cup coffee with the stars keeping guard on the bush around you.
(Hint: Try to take that unique picture of the Milky Way of stars)
Day 2
Early risers may catch a glimpse of the Bush Babies returning to roost in the trees or join the Francolins on their early morning call. After coffee and something light to eat you depart on your morning activity - You might be adventurous and choose to do your morning safari on foot. You will be accompanied by an armed ranger. This is a awesome experience and guaranteed to get the adrenalin flowing when your are on equal foot with some of the most dangerous predators in the bush.
Returning from your safari is time for breakfast.
You now have time to explore the immediate bush surroundings - do some special photography, do some birdwatching from the birding hide, relax with the children around the pool or chill in your room with that romantic African story...
Light lunch will be served around mid-day and tea with snacks around mid-afternoon. After tea you will depart on the afternoon/evening safari.
The rest of the program will be the same as yesterday.
Day 3:
Your morning safari and breakfast will see you packing, taking a final plunge in the pool and the famous pictures to proof your story about Africa...
Departing Madikwe around 10:30 your guide will transfer you back to Johannesburg or Pretoria where you will arrive late afternoon.
