Volunteers contribute to all aspects of elephant conservation. From the creation of sustainable community projects directly linked to elephant tourism to the hands on maintenance of the parks and reserves.

As an Everything Elephant volunteer, you will be learning everything from how an elephant uses it’s trunk to the complex history that has influenced elephant numbers in Africa, more specifically Addo Elephant National Park. You will assist with the day to day running of an elephant Park which provides a home for rescued elephants as well as studying elephants in an untouched wild environment.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
• Elephant Park – Located 30 mins north of Knysna on the east coast of South Africa home to rescued and orphaned elephants
• Addo Elephant Reserve - Home to the largest concentration of wild elephants in the wild.

You will be based at the Elephant Park during the week, have weekends off to explore the area and spend 3 days in the Majestic Addo Elephant Reserve.

Our commitment to the environment is born of the struggle by the elephants in the Knysna Forests
The Elephant Park was born of the struggle by the Elephants in the Knysna Forest, who for many years roamed freely in large numbers in their natural forest habitat.

Knysna and its surrounds is an area rich in natural beauty and history, with the ‘World’s most southerly elephants’, forming an integral part of this fascinating history. Though small in the face of the African Elephants plight across the continent, the sad story of the Knysna elephant and their demise is devastating.

At the Park volunteers are privileged to have a close-up and personal encounter with these gentle giants, and leave having gained a healthy respect for these wonderful animals, and a better understanding of the African elephant and his plight across the continent.

Furthermore, the Elephant Park’s Enterprise program includes the adoption of an underprivileged local rural school. Volunteer efforts add value to the school children in a number of ways. These efforts extend to support programs aimed at assisting unemployed parents.
