This holiday is a combination of self-drive adventuring and a chauffeur driven, guided tour. You will pick up your hire car in Cape Town and drive yourselves through this wonderful region, before catching a plane from Port Elizabeth to sunny Durban. Here your GUIDE will meet you at the airport and will also act as the chauffeur of your air-conditioned touring vehicle. His/her interpretation of what you see, places you visit, advise on safety and companionship during your tour, will make this a holiday you won’t forget. A fully guided package is available on request. As you will be driving yourselves from Cape Town, through the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth, I have filled in activities for each day as a guide line for you to follow. (All entrance fees for each day's activities are not included in the package price) Itinerary Highlights: Day 1 On arrival at Cape Town airport you will pick up your hire car and drive to your hotel. Once checked in, you will have the rest of the day to familiarise yourself with the area and relax. Overnight: Winchester Mansions or similar Meals: Day 2 Today, after a good breakfast you head out to the Cape of Good Hope. - Drive Chapmanspeak to Cape Point Nature Reserve - visit Cape of Good Hope and the Cape Point Lighthouse, - Drive via False Bay and Simons Town to the Penguin colony. - After lunch you visit Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Winchester Mansions or similar Day 3 Today you visit Table Mountain where you will appreciate the spectacular views, once at the top. From there visit the Diamond Works or catch the “Topless Bus” for a 2 hour tour of the city. Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Winchester Mansions or similar Day 4 Today you check out and travel via the wine route to Hermanus. Sample some excellent wines in Stellenbosch and surrounding vineyards before checking into your guest house in Hermanus. Take a drive to the bay to see the whales. From July to November, Hermanus is a fantastic place to watch Southern Wrights Whales and from nearby Gansbaai you can spend a day out at sea watching Great White Sharks. This is something the whole family can enjoy. Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Schulphoek Guest House or similar Day 5 After breakfast drive to Gansbaai for your Great White Shark Experience. You will be out at sea for 4 to 5 hours. Make sure you have a good waterproof, warm jacket, sun block and a towel. If this isn’t for you, take a boat trip out to see the Whales. Advise on booking which activity you would prefer and it will be booked for you. Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Schulphoek Guest House or similar Day 6 Check out and continue your journey. Drive through the historical town of Swellendam, through Tradouws Pass onto Route 62 - the heart of the Small Karoo. - Visit Ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn - touch, feed and ride on an Ostrich! Meals: Breakfast, Dinner Overnight: Country Guest House in Oudtshoorn Day 7 Check out and visit Cango Caves - a 1hr tour through the caves, before travelling across the Outeniqua Pass to George. - Take the route via Wilderness, Sedgefield and Goukamma to Knysna and encompasses some of the most spectacular scenery in South Africa in the heart of the Garden Route Lake District. The section from Victoria Bay along the Cliffside and over the Kaaiman’s River via the pass to Wilderness is the highlight of the journey. Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Guest Lodge in Knysna Day 8 - Knysna Featherbed Experience - Cruise the Knysna lagoon to the isolated Featherbed Nature Reserve. Board a 4x4 tractor and trailor which take you through the forest to the famous Knysna Heads. Walk back along the cliffs, caves and forests to enjoy lunch in the unique outdoor restaurant. - Walk with Elephants at the Knysna Elephant Park - touch, feel and learn about these ancient animals. Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Guest Lodge in Knysna Day 9 Check out and drive to Port Elizabeth where you will return your rented car and catch a plane to sunny Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. On arrival in Durban you will be met by your GUIDE who will then drive you through Zululand to the small town of St.Lucia which is situated in the middle of our first World Heritage Site. Meal basis: Breakfast Overnight: Guest Lodge in St.Lucia Day 10 After breakfast you will be taken to the jetty for a 2 hour boat cruise on the St.Lucia Estuary. This cruise will bring you up-close to hippos, crocs and a variety of water birds that live in this wonderful estuarine system. After the cruise you will return to the Lodge, pack and then travel north to Phinda Private Game Reserve. Phinda is home to Africa’s Big 5, as well as Black Rhino and all other species of animals you would expect to find. Phinda is a luxury, well established game reserve and will meet all your needs and expectations. Arrive at Phinda in time for lunch. You will have time to explore your chalet before heading out in open safari vehicles, with a professional ranger and tracker, for your first safari. You will return to the Lodge after dark, freshen up and then sit down for a lavish dinner. Meal basis: All meals, all local brand drinks, dawn/dusk game drives, laundry & guided walks Overnight: Phinda Mountain or Forest Lodge (Rock and Vlei Lodge available on request) Day 11 An early start to your day with a game drive before breakfast. After breakfast you will have time to relax by the pool, take a walk with your tracker or simply watch the world go by from the comfort of your chalet. Lunch Afternoon tea will be served in the main area before you head out on your afternoon/evening game drive in search of those animals that have eluded you thus far. Dinner Day 12 Another early start, with a game drive before breakfast. After breakfast you will have time to relax by the pool, take a walk with your tracker or simply watch the world go by from the comfort of your chalet. Lunch Afternoon tea will be served in the main area before you head out on your afternoon/evening game drive in search of those animals that have eluded you thus far. Dinner Meal basis: All meals, all local brand drinks, dawn/dusk game drives, laundry & guided walksOvernight: Phinda Mountain or Forest Lodge (Rock and Vlei Lodge available on request) Day 13 After your last game drive and breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip where you will catch your charter flight to Johannesburg. End of Service. For those wanting to add an additional safari onto this package and fly to the spectacular Leopard Hills or Sabi Sabi in the Kruger area, please request on booking. Included: Car hire with full insurance and unlimited mileage for the first 9 days.
