Introduction
Our small group itinerary is unique, the only fixed dated tour sold in the UK. As São Tomé receives fewer than 20 tourists a week, we know this is a special opportunity to explore this former Portuguese colony. We offer the perfect mix of adventure, discovery, and a few comforts along the way, including a stay at an excellent resort that straddles the Equator.
Join us on our pioneering São Tomé Discovery tour, taking in the highlights of this little visited West African country. During our 8-day itinerary, we will travel to the interior of the island, staying at a Roça, or Plantation House. We include some trekking which can be strenuous, but you will be rewarded with fine views of the lush landscape as we continue through a succession of valleys and ridges. Alternatively, we can transfer you by 4WD.
Once we have reached the coast, there will be time to relax, and take a swim in one of the beautiful bays, before reaching our second Roça for a comfortable overnight stay. The following day we travel to the southernmost point of São Tomé island. A short boat transfer brings us to Rolas Island. Our stay will be at the island’s luxury, international standard resort. Enjoy the excellent facilities and fine beaches, and be sure to visit the Equator Mark that crosses the island.
Finally, having transferred back to the main island, we head north, by road along the east coast, stopping at the natural blowhole of Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth) for a picnic lunch, followed by a visit to the cocoa plantation of Água Izé.
I T I N E R A R Y
Day 1 - Arrival São Tomé
Transfer airport to hotel
Overnight Hotel Miramar (HB)
Day 2 - City of São Tomé to Bombaim
Breakfast at the Miramar followed by a briefing with our local Tour Leader. City tour in São Tomé town to visit, among others, the National Museum, the local market and the Cathedral. Continuation by 4WD to the coffee plantation of Monte Café in the mountains. After a factory visit, transfer to Bombaim, with lunch at Roça de Santa Clara. Walk (about 2 hours) to Bombaim, passing by the waterfall of Bombaim. Check-in at the plantation house and rest before dinner. Dinner

Day 3 - Bombaim to São João dos Angolares
Transfer by 4WD to São João. Dinner at the Roça.

Day 4 - On the East Coast
Day at leisure exploring the local area or visit the nearby beaches which are within walking distance of the Roça. Dinner

Day 5 - The Southern beaches
After breakfast at the plantation house, check-out and drive further down south to see the waterfalls of Ribeira Peixe, the plantation of EMOLVE, the village of Portalegre, the beach of Jalé with picnic lunch and transfer by boat from Ponta Baleia to Rolas Island. Check-in at the resort and relaxation before dinner

Day 6 - Pestana Equador Island Resort
A free day. No program, but a suggestion of visiting the Equator Mark (40 minutes walk) or enjoy the beach, Praia Café, or visit the natural blowholes along the coast. All meals included

Day 7 - The Northeast
Breakfast at the resort and checkout. Boat transfer to Ponta Baleia. Transfer along the East Coast, stopping at the natural blowhole of Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth) for a picnic lunch, followed by the visit to the cocoa plantation of Água Izé. Continuation to city and check-in at Hotel Miramar. Dinner
