Itinerary

KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields & Game Reserves

We have a special place for KwaZulu-Natal in our hearts as this is their home province. This tour aims to give our clients a good over all view of KwaZulu-Natal, from the Drakensberg mountains to the beaches of Maputaland.

We start off in Durban, where we will take you off the beaten track as we head for the Valley of a Thousand Hills to witness, amongst other things, an On-Air raptor display. You will get to see these magnificent birds of prey in action.

Our next stop is Howick falls, and then on to the Midlands Meander, before spending the night in Dundee.

Next day takes us back in time, to witness the many battles that where fought in the area. We will show you the three better known battle sites: Blood River from the Zulu Boer war, then Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift from the Anglo Zulu war.

The next highlight is when we enter the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game reserve, which is KwaZulu-Natal's premier Big 5 game reserve. This game reserve obtained world recognition for its Operation Rhino project which is responsible of saving both the Black and White Rhino.

We will offer you a chance to not only see the Big 5, but also to take part in a night drive which gives you a chance to view the nocturnal game species which are usually not seen. The third and fourth nights will be spent here.

The following day will start off with an early morning game drive, before we leave the park and make our way to the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park. Here we will take you on a cruise up the St. Lucia estuary through South Africa's largest population of Hippo.

The next day we leave this world heritage site and make our way down the North Coast to Durban, but not before stopping at Shakaland to witness a traditional Zulu kraal (house) and watch some Zulu Dancing. You may even get the Sangoma (witch doctor) to throw some bones for you.

From there it is just a short hop and we're back in Durban where we can drop you off wherever you like.

Birding can be incorporated into this tour. We have one of the countries best bird guides (one of six), available to do this tour for you should you be a keep birder. Please feel free to request a list of special birds we could find for you on this tour.

All the tours we offer are perfectly suited to be the ideal family holiday.

As we do not mix groups together you don’t have to worry about loud or over active children getting in the way of anybody else. Our guides understand that tours with children need to be handled a little differently! On request we can even provide prams, car seats and booster seats for very young children.

Comment: We had a great couple of days in Kwa-Zulu Natal. We wanted a customised tour to fill three spare days and this safari came up trumps.

Pierre was great, meeting us at Durban and arranging every aspect of the safari and the battle field tour we had wanted to cover on our brief stay in KZN.

We would thouroughly recommend this safari operator. The Guest House, owned by Pierre in Dundee was really comfortable and we were made very welcome by Pierre and his wife Karen - great

Comment: We have just returned from a most enjoyable holiday in South Africa, a week of which was spent with on safari.

The friendly atmosphere and excellent food that awaited us at their Kamelkop game farm made life very easy for us and nothing was too much trouble for Pierre and his team.

Pierre provided us with a really first class guide for our two days at the Battlefields and he himself proved to be a really good game spotter when we went to a game park as well as being extremely knowledgeable and interesting. Such problems as did arise were dealt with effectively and efficiently, and we always had full confidence in his leadership.

We would be very happy to travel with him again.

Comment: Overall the tour was excellent and meeted the needs of all 6 participants.

The zulu battlefields were very intersting and Pierre our guide was very knowledgeable. From there we travelled to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi game reserve. The game sitings here was amazing and considerably better than those from our visit to the Kruger Park last year: we saw the Big 5 in only 2 drives.

Our original itinerary included a visit to Shakaland. However, our guide, Pierre, suggested that we might want to see the crocs and hippos at Lake St Lucia instead (at no extra cost). The group did decide to visit the latter and were all delighted with the cruise on the lake.

It was very easy to plan our trip from the UK via email with Pierre. He was very helpful and only to pleased to customise the tour to suit our wishes, during the planning stage. Once on tour, Pierre did a splendid job of showing us the battlefields, game reserve and Lake St Lucia. The accommodation and restaurants he chose were of good quality too.

My party and I would highly recommend this company to other visitors to South Africa.
