Day 1 – 3
Before leaving Livingstone we visit the Victoria Falls themselves – depending on season gaze into the 100 metre deep Batoka gorge, or admire the spray as it plumes up from the awesome power of the river as it flows into the narrow canyon below. From Livingstone we go to Botswana and the Chobe National Park for an early morning game drive in search of elephant, buffalo, lion and a variety of birdlife. We relax during the heat of the day before an afternoon game viewing cruise on the Chobe River to watch hippos wallow, kingfishers feed, and the African sun slip below the horizon.

Day 4 – 6
Further south is the Okavango Delta, a natural wetland where the Okavango River fans out onto the plains to form the largest inland delta of its type in the world. Explore the myriad waterways and wetlands on foot and by dugout canoe (mokoro), catching glimpses of hippo, crocodile, buffalo and elephant. We camp on river islands and enjoy the peace amongst the swamps, lily pads and swaying grasses of the Okavango Delta.

Day 7 – 11
We cross into Namibia and join the Bushmen for a guided walk before continuing to Windhoek and Etosha National Park. This vast reserve of over 20,000 sq km surrounds a central salt pan. We spend two days in the area mixing vehicle based game-drives with static viewings. From Etosha we turn south to Damaraland, an area of eerie landscapes and barren rocky outcrops, to Spitzkoppe (sometimes known as the ‘Matterhorn of Africa’) where there is the opportunity to see some Bushman paintings.

Day 12 – 15
We reach the Atlantic coast and sandwiched between the ocean and desert is Namibia’s premier coastal getaway, Swakopmund. Relax and enjoy the local cafe culture or try some adrenaline pumping optional activities such as quad-biking, sand-boarding and skydiving! We continue south and reach the world’s oldest desert at Sossusvlei. Rising early we enter the Namib Naukluft Park before dawn, and (energy permitting) climb one of the massive sand dunes to watch sunrise over the vast sand sea. A popular option here is to take a guided walk through the desert dunes.

Day 16 – 19
Further south we visit another natural wonder of Africa – the Fish River Canyon, second-largest in the world. Finally we cross into South Africa and after a night at camp on the banks of the Gariep (Orange) River we drive into cosmopolitan Cape Town, one of the world’s most attractive cities. We take a cultural visit to a local township and enjoy a traditional lunch before our South West Safari ends.
