Brief Overview
Luangwa Bush Camping is camping and walking in the Nsefu Sector, in the game rich riverine areas of the lagoons and woodlands that run along side the river. The camp is simple, with walk in tents, mattresses on the ground, a bucket shower and bush loo but all the details are there and you want for nothing. The meals are cooked over the fire and served straight from the coals.

With no more than four people on each trip, camping in simple but comfortable style, you will experience the game-rich Nsefu sector of the park with one of the best guides in Africa.

Bush camping is simply one of the most exclusive experiences on offer in Africa.

Day 1
On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport a guide will meet you. The drive to camp is 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush. On private land, and overlooking the South Luangwa National Park, with a wide view of the Luangwa River, the camp is ideally situated for the start of your safari. The six rooms all look out over the river and have open air bathrooms. On arrival you will enjoy a lunch looking out the lagoon before the afternoon and night game drive.

Day 2
The day is spent walking in the game rich area of the Luangwa riverine habitat, with ebony groves, many lagoons and of course the Luangwa River itself. During your morning walk the camp will be moved to a second site and lunch will be waiting for you on arrival, alternatively you and your guide may decide to have a picnic lunch en route. This is a very flexible day and your guide will discuss options to suit you and any other guests.

Day 3
Up for an early breakfast and then a 3 hour game drive through the park to the Luangwa River crossing point opposite your next camp, where the staff will meet and boat the party across the river to camp. This remote and small camp lies within the National Park and enjoys a stunning location on a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River. A grove of mahogany trees shade the large custom-made tents. From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the riverbank. The camp has 5 tents, each with a dressing room, open air bathroom and private verandah that overlooks a water hole. Most meals are taken under the shade of a huge Mahogany tree in the centre of the camp. On arrival lunch will be served followed by a siesta before the afternoon and evening game drive.

Days 4+5
Up at sunrise for breakfast and the morning walk to the first bush camp. Situated in a secluded area of the Nsefu sector the camp is simple and “bush”. Arriving in time for a leisurely lunch followed by a siesta. An afternoon walk will follow tea and then back to camp for sundowners and dinner around the camp fire.

Days 6+7
Following a relaxed breakfast you will walk out of camp and head towards Nsefu Camp, arriving in time for lunch. The camp is on a sweeping bend of the river. Nsefu was the first game camp in Zambia and dates back to the early fifties. The Nsefu Sector was recognised then as a phenomenal area and it still is. There are six round rondavals with luxurious ensuite facilities and each room has a clear view of the river through large windows and from the new wooden verandahs. On arrival you will be shown to your rondavel. Lunch will be served followed by a well deserved siesta before the afternoon and evening game drive.

Day 8
After breakfast you will be transferred by vehicle to Mfuwe Airport which is approximately 1.5 hrs drive from Nsefu, incorporating your final game drive.

We have both been on a lot of safaris and this was up there and probably the best we have ever done.

Kazuma was awesome - what a magical place ! Staff and stay truly exceptional and the game was immense as well.

Simply outstanding … Thanks to all for the gracious hospitality - what a blessed experience

The trip was fabulous, well planned and well executed.

The hospitality and accommodations at the lodges were great, only surpassed by the wildlife.

I can't say there were no surprises (i.e. elephants holding us captive in our tent at Seba camp while they ate Marula fruit; hippo in the front yard at our Toka Lea tent; or having a baby hyena chewing the brake line under our vehicle rendering us without brakes, etc.) They were all fun, of course, providing special photo opportunities.

Thanks to such great driver/guide, my husband and I really had unique sightings every day - all day. We spent hours enjoying the numerous up close leopard, lion and elephant encounters.

All of the transfer / plane connections went as planned.

Too many memories to list them all.

The overall safari was excellent. The guide was pleasant and personable and had abundant knowledge of Botswana's bird and wildlife. Our game viewing was superb and the route chosen through Botswana was ideal.

Our cook was the king of four wheel drive cooking and able to create culinary marvels over an open fire.
