Itinerary

Kruger Encounter

01 Mpumalanga region, private conservancy – Greater Kruger D
02 - 03 Kruger National Park – game drives BLD
04 Morning game drive, transfer to Johannesburg B

Day 1
Leaving Johannesburg we pass through scenic Mpumalanga to a private game conservancy neighbouring Kruger National Park. A comfortable setting for our accommodation the conservancy boasts a variety of plains game such as zebra, wildebeest, impala, giraffe and buffalo as well as a number of smaller nocturnal creatures such as porcupine, honey badger, genet, civet and caracal.

Day 2 – 3
We rise early and transfer into open safari vehicles for two days game driving in Kruger National Park. This is South Africa’s ‘flagship’ reserve with some two million hectares of unrivalled diversity – over 500 species of birds, 150 species of mammals (including some 12,000 elephants), 100 reptiles, 23,000 plant species, and a variety of amphibians.

We have time to explore the wilderness in search of Africa’s ‘Big Five’ – elephant, rhino, leopard, lion and buffalo – as well as the lesser known (but no less rewarding) varieties. Keep in mind when game driving that we are searching for wildlife in its natural habitat in an area the size of Wales! There is an enormous variety of wildlife here but we need to search to find it; keep camera and (or) binoculars at the ready – catching sight of lion, elephant, rhino, or antelope in the wild makes the driving and waiting worthwhile! Breakfasts and dinners are taken at our base outside the park with picnic lunch usually had inside the park.

One idea to consider at some stage during your stay is an (optional) night drive or a game walk in the National Park or neighbouring private reserve. Speak to your guide who will be pleased to arrange it.

Day 4
We have a final game drive before transferring back to Johannesburg where our tour ends in the late afternoon.
