Day 1 From Johannesburg we transit north to Botswana, a vast country with large areas of wilderness to our camp at Nata, roughly half way to Victoria Falls and Zambia.
Day 2 – 3 We continue north into Zambia and make camp on the banks of the Zambezi River, a few kilometres from the Victoria Falls. We visit the ‘Falls’ themselves, where the Zambezi plunges 100 metres into the Botoka Gorge. Enjoy the area at leisure or by trying some of the optional activities available e.g. rafting, canoeing, scenic flights and other adventure activities. In the evening we embark on an evening cruise on the mighty Zambezi in hope to view the many animals and crocodiles basking on the banks.
Day 4 We cross back into Botswana to Chobe National Park. Here we take a river cruise on the Chobe River. The area is known for its stocks of elephant but Chobe also contains hippo, crocodile, antelope, lion and hyena, and a variety of birdlife including the famous African Fish Eagle.
Day 5 – 8 Before we leave the area we take a 4x4 game-drive in Chobe – another opportunity to see one of Africa’s premier game parks. We then drive south, travelling via Nata to Maun and the Okavango Delta. We explore the Okavango’s reed-filled waterways and islands on foot and by dug-out canoe (mokoro), and ‘rough’ camp two nights on one of the islands in this watery paradise. The opportunity to talk and spend time with the local ‘polers’ (guides) makes this is a memorable wilderness experience.
Day 9 – 10 We travel to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, established to restock the area with rhino and other grazing animals. We take an evening game drive across the reserve, enjoying the wildlife and open horizons as the day turn to dusk. Finally we cross back into South Africa to Johannesburg where our tour ends.
